Captain Boyton swam a distance of twentyfive miles in the Mississippi River on the 29th of January. Arrangements have, it is stated, been completed with the trustees of the late Dr Andrew Bell, the founder of the Madras system of education, for the establishment of Chairs of Education in St Andrew’s and Edinburgh Universities. Mr Meiklejohn, the Assistant Commissioner of the Endowed Schools, who has had large experience in educational work, has been appointed to the St Andrew’s Chair.
