The usual monthly meeting of the Canter* bury Ace .imatisation Society was held yesterday afternoon at the ordinary place in gardens. Present: Dr Campbell (in the cb air), Dr.Nedwill; Messrs Wallace, Bird, /art (secretary), Colonel Packe, and Sir Oracroft Wilson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The Chairman said he had spoken to the Superintendent about the vote of £3OO for American salmon ova. He had also seen Mr Maskell, and learned that the vote bad been placed upon the estimates, and passed ; and that it could be obtained when necessary. He would suggest that it should be divided into two sums of £l6O each, and that a committee be appointed to arrange about the importation of the American ova ; that arrangements also be made with Mr Young in reference to supplying the same. Mr Bird moved that matter be left in the hands of the garden committee. The Chairman stated that the first ova would be ready to ship in September next. The Society would not be involved in a gieater sum than £3OO, which had already been voted for the purpose. In answer to a question the Chairman stated that he had not yet seen a license. He had carried his fee about in his pocket for several days. [Laughter.J He likewise stated that the ova were going on very satisfactorily ; about a hundred were already hatched out. Several accounts were passed for payment. A number of gentlemen were elected members of the society. Col Packe stated that with regard to Mr Garforth it would be remembered that he was before the Court some little time ago. He, the speaker, knew that he was out at the time in the interests of the society, which he had at heart. He was on the look out for parties who were transgressing the law. He made this explanation in consequence of what had appeared in the papers. The secretary, in answer to a question, stated that the society had about £IOO in the bank, while there were £6O or £7O to come in for fish and hares. Col.
