CHRISTCHURCH AND LYTTELTON RAILWAY.
To the Editor of the Globe. _ Sir, —Will you give me space in your journal to call public attention to the abominable way that the passenger traffic on the Christchurch and Lyttelton Railway is conducted. I arrived at the Port this morning by the Taupo, and had great difficulty to get ray luggage up ; then I was charged one shilling for wharfage, and had to pay five shillings for it to be taken from the steamer’s side to the station, there being a truck for passengers’ luggage alongside, but the Hue blocked, and when I got to the station, 10l and behold the train comes in from Christchurch ten minutes’ late, the people jump out, others jump in, and off it goes, giving no time to put my luggage in, and leaving myself and others to kick our heels about for some hours in Lyttelton, and I should think from the cool collected sort of official impertinence that pervaded the psuedo-polite-ness of these gentlemen, when we made a very just complaint, that it was a common custom at Lyttelton to have a few stragglers left behind. I call it nothing but disgraceful negligence, and an unpardonable system of extortion. Yours, &c M A VICTIM. Cirri stchurch, April 22nd, 1876. p.S.—What is the reason that the passengers are penned up like so many sheep, and only let out to scramble for a seat, which to get necessitates leaving your luggage on the platform,
