CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, April 20. (Before G. L. Lee, Esq., J. R., and W. D. Carruthers, J.P.) Drunk and Disorderly.— Ellen Boyle and William Foulds, for being drunk and disorderly, were fined 10s each. Au inebriate, who, in addition to being drunk and disorderly, had resisted the police, was fined 10s ; and two other persons, for being drunk ahd disorderly, were ordered to pay 5s each. Assault. —George Long was charged with assaulting his father, Thomas Long. Mr O’Neil appeared for the defendant. The complainant deposed that, on the night of the 10th, the defendant went to witness’s house and gave him and his mother a bottle of.rum. The defendant then struck him over the head. He came back on the following Monday and repeated his conduct, saying that he was Dr Foster and had come to see how the poor patient was getting on. He was very drunk on both occasions, but witness was quite sober. The wife of the complainant gave corroborative evidence, and added that the son was not content with assaulting them, but ho also set the cat on the dog and broke things generally. In cross-examination witness admitted that her husband got drunk every month after being paid. From the defence it appeared that the whole thing was a drunken squabble, but the Bench was of opinion that an assault had been committed, and the defendant was fined £1 and costs. A Dirty Fellow.— Thomas Quirk was charged with committing a nuisance in a carriage on the Canterbury railway. Defendant admitted his guilt, and was fined 20s and costs. A Horse at Large. —James Shields, for allowing a horse to wander at large, was fined ss. Abusive Language. —Henry Derrett was charged with using abusive language towards Prank Gire, Mr Thomas appeared for the defendant. The case was of a very trumpery character, and was dismissed.
