0 [By Submarine Cable.] THE WOOL SALES. Sydney, April 19. A London telegram reports that fine scoured and greasy wool has advanced a half-penny to a penny, INTBRPROVINCIAL. Auckland, April 19. Arrived—H.M.S. Nymph, from Levuka. The agricultural statistics for the province bf Auckland for 1876 are publishe 1. The number of holdings is 4002 agaiisb 4910 for last year. The land in grass is 340,530 acres, against 254,461 for last year. The estimated gross produce of grain is 55,990 against 44,862. Wheat shows an increase, and oats and oarley a large increase. There is an increase of acres under crop, the number being 356,938, against 263,657 for last year, The district of Franklin shows most prominently. Two seamen of the Merwanjee Framjee were arrested last evening on a charge of garrotting. The victim was an old man named Wentworth, who bad been sailmakrr aboard, but had been discharged at the the custom?. Yesterday, at noon, the prisoners appear to have got round him after receiving his money, and enticing him into the domain knocked him down and robbed him. The case has been remanded. Gisborne, April 19. Captain Reed, M H.R , has been fined £5 by the R.M. for using insolent and abusive language towards Captain Joke. A charge of bribery and corruption daring the Bast Coast elections against Captain Morris, comes off on the 25th instant, Patea, April 19. The hull of the steamer Egmont brought £SOO at auction today. The gear was bought for £95. Mr Bundle, the Wanganui bridge contractor, was the purchaser of the vessel. There is every probability of getting her off. Wellington, April 19. At a sale to-day washed wool sold at lid, mixed, 7d ; grease, 8d ; locks and pieces, 6d; merino skins, 6£d; tallow, 21s to 23s per cwt. The Provincial Government to-day offered for sale about 12,000 acres of land. The total amount realised was over £7OOO, some of the land fetching over £5 per acre. It is understood that the proceeds will enable the Provincial Government to carry on satisfactorily until the abolition law comes into
Dunedin, April 19. In the case Bird v National Rank, the jury, after considering their verdict for an hour, found for the plaintiff—damages, £250. It is [probable the defendants will not pay without a further contest. The members of the fire brigade here have resolved to collect subscriptions to pay the expense of sending eight of their number to the Ballarat demonstration, (From a correspondent of the Press ) Dunedin, April 19 lima de Murska opened to the fullest attendance ever seen within the walls of the Queen’s Theatre. Shortly after the doors opened the lower parts of the house were rushed. The circle tickets were at a premium this morning. She and the other members of the company met with a splendid reception, THIS DAY’S TET,EQJtAMB. Hokitika, April 20. The Otago has arrived from Sydney. She experienced a succession of heavy easterly gales, with thick weather. The sun was not visible for four days. She made the coast on the eighteenth, south of Hokitika ; but had to anchor on account of a dense fog. Passengers for Canterbury, per s.s. Otago, from Sydney - Rev and Mrs W. Habens, Mrs Hill, Messrs J. and E. May, J. Jenkins, and nine tons of cargo.
