CANTERBURY RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.
Thied Day. The weather yesterday was all that could be desired for shooting purposes, hardly any wind prevailing throughout the day. The only matches fired were the Licensed Victuallers’ and the All comers’. These did not conclude the programme, and it is inhnded to stt aside a special to fire the remaining matches. One of the most pleasing features of this year’s contest has been the entire absence of disputes, so that the post of the umpire has been quite a sinecure. The following are the scores of yesterday’s firing, the first stage for the Licensed Victuallers’ Cup having been completed on the previous day
The Licensed Victuallers’ Prize—Distances, 400, 500 and 600 yards ; rifle, any carrying Government ammunition ; position, any ; pull, 6lbs ; number of shots, seven at each range ; entrance fee, members 2s 6d ; non-members, ss; Government regulation target. Prizes—lst prize, value £8 ; 2nd, value, £6 ; Brd, value £4; 4th, value £3 ; sth, value £2.
On shooting off the ties Piercy made a bull’s eye, and Perrin an outer, Piercy thus takes second prize, and Pervin third. The All-Comers’ Cup, open to all-comers. Distance —500 and 6 0 yards ; rifle, any ; any pull; number of shots, seven a', each range ; position, any ; entrance fte, members, 2s 6d ; non-members, 7s 6d ; target, 6ft square : centre, 4ft; bull’s eye, 2£fc square ; small bores to allow six points.
