THIS DAY’S TELEGRAMS.
Auckland, April 19. The following tenders have been received for the dock :—Cameron, £62,211; John Taylor, £68,467; Owen Jones and Co, £52,754; John Brettman and Co, £58,875; 11. Dickson, £54,000 ; Henderson and Co, £64,662 10s. Owen Jones and Co’s tender was accepted. Gbahamstown, April 19. His Excellency the Governor met with a hearty reception. The Volunteers turned out and addresses were presented. Wellington, April 19. The Government have taken steps towards investigating the charges made against the reclamation contractors, by placing the matter in the hands of the police, as the signature of the letter proves to be fictitious, no person of that name having been employed on the work, or can be discovered. The handwriting is very marked. Should the writer be discovered, both the Provincial and General Governments will see that the quality of the work performed is examined, and every opportunity given him to make good his charges, Geeymouth, April 19. The general meeting of the Greymouth Coal Co. has been adjourned for two months, to allow the shareholders in Wellington, Dunedin, and Auckland to be represented. Port Chalmers, April 19.
