Correspondence was read from the Colonial Trea urer, wiih cheque for £7ll 16s Id, being grant of 18s 4d in the £ on rates collected. From Mr W. Martin and others re shingling Aldwin’s road; to be attended to. From Mr J. S. Clark, re trespass of cattle Matho son’s road. From Mr John Anstiss re bad state of road between rural sections 9(16 and 104. Resolved—“ That Messrs Clark and Anstiss be informed resoecuvely that lire same will bo attended to.” From the. Drainage Board four letters re reopening the Ferry road drain, one of which slated the Drainage Board is not in a position to say for what length of time it will be necessary to leave the drain open, the line and sizr of it will be identical with the original drain as far as Wilson’s road, the length on the Ferry road being 98 chains. From the City Council, with cony petition from Mr G Jones and nine other ratepayers on iho East town belt, asking to have the road and foot- . path between Cashel and Hereford streets I formed ; that the footpath be 20 feet | wide, and that the trees be allowed to i remain as they are. Resolved—“ That j Mr Manning and the foreman meet the city I surveyor to inspect the work refersed to, and report at the next meeting. From the Secretary of Public Works re railway drains, stating the attention of the railway engineer had been called to the matter, and that the derk write to the Drainage Board re bad state of the drainage at the top of Cashel and Hereford streets, caused by the stoppage of water in Jackson’s creek. In reference to a petition re opening up the Canal reserve road, it was resolved that the petitioners be informed the Board had the matter under consideration. Mr Pepporill waited on the Board, also Mr George Jones, the femer in reference to a culvert across Oharlesworth’s road, complaining of its being too short, and getting stopped up.—To be seen to. Mr Jones attended as one appointed by a public meeting re formation of streets in W d(ham, when, upon mature consideration, it was re solved that notice be given that it is (he intention of the Board to strike a special rate of Is in the £ upon the rateable p operty in that portion of rural section No 79 in which the streets and footpa’hs n quire forming, and that steps be at once taken for the formation of the roads and footpaths in the Iff, 2nd, 3rd, 11h, and sth streets. Twelve tenders for three contracts were opened, and one for each accepted. Resolved —“ That as soon as the levels are taken and specifications drawn, that tenders be called for forming the streets in Waltham, and for shingling Aldwin’s, Smith’s, Duncan’s, and Matheson’s roads ; that Messrs Langdown, Manning, Clephane, and Kerr, wait upon the Government re drainage of section 79, to obtain permission to drain into the railway drain ; that the foreman attend to boles in the Waltham drain,” Messrs Berry and Burrell re diversion of road ; also asking to have part of road be'ween rural section Nos 1148, 4075, and 10,269/ handbills, formed. Resolved—“ That Mr Kerr and the foreman visit the road, an 1 report upon the same at the next meeting.” Moneys received— From General Government, £7ll IGs Id; ordinary rates, £7 8s 3d ; Waimakariri, 10s lid; Court expenses, 19s; deposit, £O. Total, £726 14s 3d, Paysheets to tht amount of £32 Is 6d w :re passed for payment, when the Board adjourned.
