VANQUISHED.
A correspondent tells this as a true incident : A young man, whose name we will omit, made his first call at a barber's shop to be Biaved, and accordingly took his seat in the chair and waited patiently for the man to proceed. The barber being a great joker, sent out in the yard for his pick and shovel, and told his wife to get his spy-glaBS. He adjusted that to his eye, and, getting in the rear of the unsuspecting young man, he commenced to spy out the incipient whiskers. The messenger having returned with the pick and shovel, stood viewing the scene, which created a roar of U from a crowd of bystanders. The young man, thinking something was the matter, looked around, and as he caught sight of the group, he wanted to know what the matter was. ' Oh, nothing, said Billy. ' I am spying them out, so as to be able to dig them out with the pick and shovel ! ' It is needless to say that the poor fellow waß vanquished.
