Messrs Cameron Brothers received a telegram from Captain Shackford this morning, telling them to take a new hawser from the Rankitikei aboard the Colima at once, and inform the chief officer that she would commence towing to Port Chalmers this afternoon. _ They were instructed to continue lightering the vessel to the last moment. Shippers— DeVaux, Beharrell, Koyse, Stead, and Co, Wood, Wall* Green. The s.s. St Kilda, Captain Flown-day, arrived in harbor yesterday at 7.30 a.m. from Wanganui. She left that port at 8 pm. on the sth; experienced light northerly winds and line weather, arriving as above. . The ship Campcrdown, belonging to Messrs Shaw, Saville and Co, is to leave London early this month with immigrants for Nelson, Marlborough, and Westland, her cargo being for Wellington. The smart schooner Kate MacGregor at rived in harbor yesterday morning from the Thames with a cargo ot timber consigned to Mr J. B. Way. The ketch Clematis took her departure lor Timaru yestert ay. The brigantine Kate Brain arrived at Port Chalmers on the 4th from Lyttelton. She left here on the Ist, and experienced a light southerly breeze till abreast of Banks’ Peninsula ; thence she picked up a N E. wind which carried her to port. The schooner Alert cleared the Customs yesterday for Hokitika, produce laden. She sails to-day. A telegram from Port Albert in the Melbourne “ Argus” of March 27th says“ The yacht Rubier, of the Sydney Yacht Club, Lieutenant King, R. N., owner and commander, arrived here to-day from Launceston, eu route for the Gipps Laud Lakes, Lieutenant King reports that having landed on the east side of Hummock Island, Bass Strait, on the 18th instant, in search ot water, lie found on the beach the bottom of a vessel, apparently of about 300 tons. About a quarter of a mile further he found the upper portion, and adjacent to the wreck he found a hut, built with portions of the wreck, and stowed with the other portions, chiefly ironwork and gear, &c. He also found a small pen, containing one live sheep, nearly starved, which was set at liberty. Nothing was found to indicate the name cl the vessel, or to show how long the camp jnightln ve broken up.” The 5,9. Ladybird, Captain Evans, arrived in harbor yesterday at 11 a.m. from Northern ports. She left the Manakau at 2 p.m, on the Ist, readied Taranaki at 7.30 a.m. on the 2nd; sailed again at 9 a.m, same day, and arrived at Nelson at 1 a.m. on Monday ; left again at 1 20 p.m, and arrived at Picton at 10 p.m.; left again at 3 a.m. on the 4th, arriving in Wellington at 830 a.m. on the sth; left at 3.15 p.m. oh the 6th; experienced tine weather throughout, arriving as above. She sailed for Dunedin at 1 p.m. The barque Hadda, Captain Parker, left Newcastle on the 16th at 8 a.m, and had light southerly and variable winds to making Cape Farewell on Saturday last. Had light southerly winds down the coast, and anchored at midnight on Thursday. The Hadda, besides a full caigo of coals lor P. Laurie, brings several passengers. The passage, though long, was exceedingly line. From March 29tlrto April 6fh, no less than 22.000 sacks of grain were shipped for Melbourne and the United Kingdom a-: the Gladstone pier alone. The Alhambra and Albion took about 2000 sacks .each, and up to Thursday night the Jessie Osborne had taken in over 7000 sacks; the Kaugitikei, 3700 sacks, 1300 bales of wool, aud a quantity ot tallow. The Himalaya had on board yesterday 6000 sacks grain, 2141 bales wool, HO casks aud 27 cases of tallow; and the s.s. Beautiful Star is expected today with 1000 more sacks of wheat, which will li 11 her up. She probably clears the Customs on Monday. The Soukar’s loading is also approaching completion, 7389 sacks of grain and 117 bales of •wool being aboard her. 2048 sacks were pat on board the Jessie Osbortc on Thursday, and nearly the same quantity yesterday. II cargo continue to come in at the same rale, she will probably clear the Customs on Wednesday next.
