The Union Co’s fine s.s Hawea, Captain Wheeler, arrived in harbor on Saturday, at 1.30 p.m, after a heavy weather passage of twenty-two hours from Wellington. She lett Onehunga at 11.30 a.m ou the 2sth instant, and arrived at New Plymouth at 8 a.m on the 29th; left at 9.30 a.m, and arrived at Nelson at 9 a.m on the 30th ; left at 11.30 a.m, and arrived at Picton at 7p m; left at 5 a m on the 3lst, and arrived at Wellington at 11.30 a.m; lett at 4 p.m, arriving as above. Strong S.E and southerly winds and heavy seas characterised the passage throughout. Sailed for Port Chalmers at 4.30 p.m on Saturday. The smart little s.s Tui arrived In harbor on Sunday morning from Foxton, via Wellington and Kaikouras. Left the former port at 10 a.m on March27th, arriving at Wellington at 6 p.m; left again on the 28th at 8 p.m ; experienced heavy gale and high sea from the S.E, and had to run into Port Underwood for shelter, where she remained till the 30tb, at 1 a.m, when the anchor was again weighed, arriving off Cape Campbell at 7 a.m, As the gale was still blowing hard and the sea very high, ran under the Cape for protection, where she remained until 4 a.m on Saturday, when the weather moderated, and she made another start, reaching the Kaikouras at noon ; left at 5 p.m, and arrived in our harbor at 2 a.m yesterday. The Tui was berthed at the Screw Pile Jetty. Sails North at G p.m to day. The barque Penshaw arrived in harbor yesterday evening from London, in command of Captain Airey. She Is 740 tons register,>nd on her first voyage. She left Glasgow on the 10th January, and has made a remarkably quick passage of 79 days from port to port, and 73 days from land to land, and made the S.E. end of New Zealand on 24th March. For the last three days she was beating about outside the Heads, in consequence of the thick fog. During the voyage a heavy sea broke on board, and stove in the poop skylight, nearly flying the cabin. This forenoon she hoisted the powder flag, having as part cargo 400 kegs gunpowder consigned to Messrs T. and W. Young, 81 qr-oases and kegs to Mr E. W. Mills, and 17 qrcases and kegs for Messrs Williams and Shaw, Wanganui. The powder was landed this afternoon, and stored in the magazine. The Penshaw will be berthed at the wharf to-morrow. She is consigned to Messrs Levin and Co,—“Evening Post,” March 31th. ARRIVAL OF THE MAIL BOAT COLIMA. This vessel was signalled shortly after 10 a.m, and about 11 the s.s. Moa proceeded to the steamer to bring mails and passengers ashore. On arrival alongside we made an inspection of the vessel. Like the City of San Francisco and Granada, she is striking from her immense size and very ample accommodation. The fittings are very fair, but not to be compared with those of the City of Francisco. The general plan of the boat is the same as the others—huge saloon aft, hurricane deck over all, forming a grand promenade, under which are the gaily decorated staterooms of the principal officers, very limited steerage accommodation, and only fair second cabin, all the attention seemingly having been paid to the saloon, which is certainly roomy and comfortable. It is hardly fair to criticise either the Colima or the Granada, as they are both only emergency boats, and will not visit our shores again. The passengers testify lo the extreme courtesy and kindness of the officers. The mails and some cargo haviug been taken aboard the Moa, the Colima got under weigh about 1.15 p.m, and proceeded on her way to Dunedin. We have to ibauk the purser for the following report;—Left Sydney March 12th, at 3.35 a.m, and arrived at Kandavau ou the 21st, at 12.50 p.m., left on the 22nd, at 6.15 p.m.; reached Auckland on 28th, ut 7.30 a.m.; left same day at 2.15 p in, and reached Wellington April Ist, at 1 p.m. ; left again same day at 6 p.m, arriving at Lyttelton at 11.30 a.m. yesterday. From Sydney to Auckland had fine weather, but from that port to Wellington experienced terrific southerly gale, which rendered it impossible to call at Napier ; from Wellington to Lyttelton moderate easterly weather.
