# The Customs revenue collected yesterday was as follows £ B d Spirits •• •• •• 70 11 11 The Customs duties collected at the Port of Lyttelton for the quarter ending March 31st, 187 b, amounted to £48,256 14s 2d. The land sold at the Waste Lauds Board on Thursday amounted to 1636 acres 1 rood 25 perches, realising the sum of £3272 16s 3d, and is situated in the following districts:—
Owing to the broken weather very little business has been done in the grain market. Prices for wheat continue firm, as some of our miller s stocks are still low, but as English shipments continue to be very light, it Is currently expected that prices must soon become easier, as no margin whatever now exists for shipment. For prime milling wheat we now quote 3s lid, but we have heard ot one or two choice lots being sold at 4s. The demand for oats continues active, but there is little or no alteration in prices owing to the enormous quantities still for sale. Store room is now very difficult to obtain, and some large consignments have lately been made in consequence. For good milling we to-day quote Is Bd. Ordinary barley is dull of sale, hut there is a good enquiry for prime malting, which quality is very scarce, and various prices have been pa d. Millers’ quotations are unaltered, at £lO f.o.b. in sacks; the demand is limited. Grass seed continues in fair enquiry, at 4s 6d to 4s 9d, but owing to the large crops of cocksfoot it is not expected that prices will further advance. Bran and pollard are in fair demand, but the supply is quite equal to requirements. Some lair sales of bran have been made during the week, at £3 i.o.b. Dairy produce is somewhat easier, as farmers are now bringing their stocks to market. lor prime butter we quote lo*dto lid, and for cheese Tid. Haras and bacon are without alteration, at lOd per lb. Business has been fairly brisk in the import market during the week. In spirits we have to report a goed business done. Hennessy s case has advanced in price, ewing to stocks being but small, and corresponding advance in the Melbourne markets. 31s is the price obtained for lines, while some holders ask 31s 6d; bulk meets with fair inquiry at 8s to 8s 3d, i.b. A line of Jules Kobm s bulk brandy has been placed at price withheld, but 6s 6d is about the price. douzeau s case has met with good sale j large parcels have been quitted at satisfactory rates. A small line of 100 cases J. L. Martell’s pale brandy has been disposed of at 235. J D.K.Z. geneva has been forced off at rather low rates. W I rum has been sold to arrive at is for 10 o.p. Tea has received but small attention; a few trade parcels have been quitted at full rates. Sugars—A part cargo of Mauritius sugars will arnve here in a few days, via Dunedin. At present the stocks are tully ample for two months consumption. Trade sales have been effected at £42 to £43, d.p, for white crystals, and £3B to £39 for finest yellow counters. Bottled ales and stout do not call for any particular remark; prices as last quoted. Caudles (Price's) have been sold to arrive atlOSd. Tobacco has been rather dull during the past week. Port wines and sherry have been sold in moderate sized parcels at 10s to 14s per gallon Ib. Blue countess slates, 20 x 10. have sold freely at £l3 to £l4 per 1000. Cornsacks are freely dealt in at 10s Od to us. Woolpacks are forced off in small lots at 3s 6d d.p. Mr Aikman’s sale of timber at the Christchurch Railway station, yesterday, was very well attended by tli© trade. The bidding was p*\rticui£iily biiski aiid a decided improvement on recent prices obtained. There were lour cargoes of Auckland and two of Bays timber, amounting in all to 146,000 leet, offered, and sold at prices as under White pine, Used, 12s, 13s, to 16s per 100 feet; kauri, 12s 6d, 14s, 15s 6d, to 17s per 100 feet; bays, 10s 6d at the Heathcote wharf j 11s at the Railway station.
