Three thousand five hundred sacks of wheat were shipped at the Gladstone Pier yesterday. Yesterday 100 bales of wool were shipped on board the Soukar from the s.s. Clyde. The brigantine Lizzie Guy arrived at Oamaru on Saturday night from Hokitika, which port she left on the 15th. Yesterday afternoon at 5 p m. the ketch Amateur parted her chain, canted, and came broadside on to the breastwork, smashing a portion of her port bulwarks. The Harbor Master, Captain Gibson, Captain Worsp, Captain Rose, and some of the railway hands fended her off from the wharf, and got a line out to the barque Ansdell, lying at the screw pile jetty, and hauled her out to a place ol safety. It is lucky the accident did not occur at night, as there was a good sea rolling in, and without Immediate assistance the vessel would have probably incurred serious damage. The Brodrick Castle, that arrived in Auckland on the 24th of this month, left Plymouth on December 14th, crossed the line on 13th January, the meridian of the Cape ot Good Hope on February 12th, and ran down her easting in 52deg S. On the 26th of December, at noon day, a vessel was seen on the port bow on her beam ends. On steering up close to her stern to see if'ishe required assistance, found that she was abandoned. Her name was the Sparkenhoe, of Dublin, and all her masts, except the mlzen topgallant mast, were standing. Her lower main topsail was set. The hull looked quite fresh, hut all the starboard bulwarks were in the water. Captain Thyne, of the Brodrick Castle, did not feel justified in taking charge of the vessel, as he had immigrants on board. The N.Z S.S. Go’s s.s. Phoebe, Captain Andrews, arrived in harbor on Wednesday at 7.45 p m, from Wellington and Northern ports. Left Manakau March 26th at 9.30 a.m, and arrived at Taranaki at 6 30 next morning; left again at 10 a.m, arriving at Nelson at 8 a.m. on the 25th; left Nelson at 10.30; arrived at Picton at 6.30 p.m; left at midnight, and arrived at Wellington at 6 a.m. on the 28th; left Wellington at 4 p.m. same day, and arrived as above. From Manakau to Taranaki experienced strong S.W; winds and heavy rain, and from thence to Wellington light airs and fine weather. From Wellington to Lyttelton encountered a heavy S.W. gale. We thank Mr Barber, the purser, for report and flies. The Phoebe left the wharf at 4 p.m, but fouled a buoy with her smew, and it was 5.30 p.m. When she sailed from Port Chalmers.
