Novel Race, 30 sovs ; 2 miles ; weight for age. Mr J. Jones' Dick Turpin 1 Mr Wolters' Ro7er 2 For this race three horses started, but it; was apparent that German Girl paid the money simply to make a race, not electing to go to the post, conclusions therefore lay between Dick and Rover. A good start took plac«, the horses walking off together, and kept so, neck and neck, the full round of the course. The second time past the stand Dick took the lead, and maintained the position to the finish, showing the Rover the way home by a length. Dick was afterwards sold for the sum of £ls, the amount going to the funds of the Greymoulh Jockey Club. Consolation Handicap of 20 sovs; 1% miles; post entries. Mr W. Walter's Kingfisher 1 Mr J. Rayner's Banker 2 Three entered and three started for the Consolation Stakes. In some races there is said to be dark horses, but in this race all the horses might be described as of that color, it being quite dark when the horses came to the post. When the flag fell the horses certainly went off, whether to a good or bad start it would be hard to say. When they came close to the stand it was made out that Black Eagle was leading. Nothing more can be said of the race until the horses had gone round the course, and again appeared in the straight, when it was discovered that Black Eagle, who seemed to be winning the race, had gone on the wrong side of the posts. Kingfisher and Banker raced home, the judge being able to distinguish Kingfisher leading past the box.
