ROAD BOARDS.

AVON. A meeting of the Board was held ou Monday. Present, the chairman and all the members. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Tae surveyor's report was read and considered. With respect to the road leading to Mr Str uige's, it was resolved that two of tt e bridges be replaced by culverts, and the other strengthened and replanked ; also that Mr Hawkins' offer to find carts to assist in mending the roads be accepted, the Board finding labor. The report of the Provincial Engineer was read respecting the New Brighton bridge. Eesolved —" That the clerk be instructed to write to the Secretary, stating that the bridge had been raised one foot from water line shown on drawing, and that the sur veyor has been instructed to meet the officer appointed at the bridge and test the measurement." Resolved—" That as this Board wish to form the approaches with as little delay as possible, the balance in hand be expended in building wing walls if that have the approval of the Heathcote Road Board ; if not, that the sum be divided, and each Board make their respective approaches ; that the chairman and the surveyor wait upon and confer with the Heathcote Road Board upon the matter." A letter read from the Riccarton Road Board relative to the repair of the Boundary road between Merivale road and Aikmau'a road. Resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the Riccarton Boad Board, and the Avon Road Board pay half the expense of jepair, subject to the approval of their surveyor. Letter read from Mr Reece concerning road to his lai>d. Mr Strange saw the Board and stated that if the Board would lay out the public road which runs through his land, and place culverts at the creeks, he would form the road and put shingle on. Resolved —"That culverts be placed as desired, and that the surveyor be instructed to lay off the road. With regard to the drain, Mr Walls asked the Board to cut, he was recommended to refer the mattei to the Drainage Board. Mr Rountree saw the Board and presented petition from the inhabitants, (with list of subscriptions amountiDgto £2O) requesting the Board to widen the road. Resolved—" That the surveyor be instructed to see the neighbours and ascertain upon what terms the road can be widened to half a chain." Messrs Vague and Veitch saw the Board and requested that something might be done to the road adjoining Sawyers' Arms road, as it was almost impassable in winter. Resolved—" That the surveyor be instructed to see to the requirements of the road and report thereon. Mr Grimsey saw the Board and asked to have the drain cleared out below his property. With respect to the road about which Mr Dow saw the Board, it was resolved that if he like to do the work, the Board would give £8 towards it, if done to the satisfaction of the surveyor. A letter was read from Mr Peet, contractor, relative to over measurement of ehingle, and over depth of drain on Canal reserve. Resolved—" That the surveyor be instructed to see if he has gone below his depths shewn on drawing, and report upon it. With respect to footbridge over the Avon from Wakefield, the clerk was instructed to ascertain if the road had been del icated, and the surveyor was instructed to prepare plan and estimate of cost. Accounts were t *passed and ordered to be paid.
