PORT OF LYTTELTON.

ARRIVED. March 29—Volunteer, schooner, 22 tons, Foster, from Heathcote River. CLEARED. March 29—Kate Brain, brigantine, 118 tons, Gay, for Dunedin. The fine ship Conflict got under weigh about 9 a.m. yesterday, and under Pilot Reed's charge sailed down the harbor before a light and variable wind. The Heads were passed at 11 a.m. and the pilot left the ship about three miles outside, a steady westerly wind then blowing. Captain Hardy made himself universally liked and respected in port, and we hope that when he revisits us we ■hall be able to send him away with a full ship. As before stated, the Conflict goes to Newcastle to load coals for San Francisco, from which port she takes grain tor London. Under the skilful hands of Captain Hardy and his officers, this fast vessel will no doubt, under ordinary circumstances, make a rapid and profitable trip. The Union Company's favorite and powerful steamer Maori arrived in Lytttlton yeste rday,at 12 30 p.m. from Nelson and West Coast ports. She left Port Chalmers at 4 a.m. on the sth instant, and arrived at the Bluff at 7.30, having experienced a fresh S.W. breeze after passing Cape Saunders to arrival; was detained there till (he 9th, and then left at 1.30 p.m, arriving in Dusky Sound at 8 a.m. on the 10th, and anchored in Facile Harbor (Resolution Island), and landed a party from Dunedin who have gone down to have a general survey of the place andreport on the advisability of starting a fishing company there. Left at 12.50 p.m, and Steamed round to Break Sea, but finning a strong N.N.B. cale and heavy sea running outside, ran back and anchored in Beach Harbor for the night. At daylight next morning, the 11th, weighed anchor and left for Milford Sound, passing through the entrance at 5.30 p.m, and came to an anchor in Fresh Water Basin at 6.30 p.m. Left at 6 a.m. the next morning, the 12th, and arrived at Martin's Bay at 8 a.m.; landed mails, stores, &c, and went round to Big Bay and did likewise; left at 2 p.m, and arrived in Jackson's Bay at 7 p.m, and left for Hokitika at 9 p.m, arriving off the Bar at noon next day, but receiving signals from the shore advising not to enter, passed on tor Westport, arriving off the Grey at 3 p.m, but too late on tide to be able to run in and land passengers; arrived off Westport at 9.30 p.m, and at 10 30 p.m. crossed the bar and made last to the wharf; landed forty tons of railway material for the General Government and other cargo, and went back to the Grey, arriving off the bar at 9.20 p.m, and crossed the bar in tow of thep.s. Dispatch at midnight. Here she was detained ten days in consequence of the flooded state of the river and heavy sea on the bar. Left at 9.45 a.m. on the 25th, and arrived off Westport at 3.45 p.m, and crossed the bar at 8 p.m.; landed passengers and mails, and left at 11.30 same evening for Nelson, arriving at 7 p.m. on the 26th; left at 8.30 a.m. on the 27th for Lyttelton, and at 5 p.m. passed the fore and aft schooner Arthur Wakefield abreast of Wellington Heads, bound South; passed Cape Campbell at 11 p.m, and at midnight, when oft the Kaikouras, passed the schooner Lioness beating to the southward, which asked to be reported, and arrived in Lyttelton as above. Sailed South last evening.
