CORRECTION.

To the Editor of the Globe.

Sir, — Mr Andrews’ zeal has outrun his judgment. lam very glad that I incidentally mentioned a statement that has been going round Christchurch ever since he went to Wellington, and by so doing have given him the opnortunity of correcting the report. The moment I heard it I went to his workshop in Gloucester street, and the report was confirmed, then at the Government puddings, and then by his own friends. I think he is under an obligation to me for helping Iron to remove a widely-spread public error coucenr'ng himself. As to Mr Andrews’ accusation of sordid motives, I must say I am artorished. I thought he would rejoice to s~e a man s', nd up alone, against the Gove ament, the rich, and the stupid, to help the poor. I am soi y to see that he does not approve pf my motive, which is—“To relieve the poor and the traders,” “ To t. •: the rich and absentees,” “To save f-vde from the fsrrM consequences of unsound finance,” rad “ To promote a free education, be ed on land, governed by Parliament and the Un> versltv Council, through all Hew Ze Vnd.” Finding my speech suppre cd, and with no place in Parliament, I deter mined, at a great sacrifice of personal e, to publish my conscientious op'omns for the good of Christchurch. However, rs Mr Andrews is agvinst me, I will si'I 1 g've him the “freedom cf h:s opinio)S but I v, ”l by no meins condeve°n.d 'o r -cuse l.'m of “sordid motive c ilu t is quite beyond me o • my p, g o e.'
