The vital statistics for the various boroughs in the colony during the month of February are published in the New Zealand Gazette : P S ,a ’ Births. The population has been estimated by adding the excess of births over deaths since the Ist March, 1874, to the then census population. It is impossible to estimate the increase from immigration. The births were 24 less than in January. The deaths were 22 more in number than the deaths in January. Of the deaths, males contributed 100 ; females, 76 ; 108 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 61'36 per cent of the whole number ; 84 of these were of children under 1 year of age. There were 9 deaths of persons of 65 years of age and over ; 4 of these persons were males and 5 females. The males were aged 65, 66, 67, and 70 ; the females were aged 65, 67, 68, 80, and 84. Two aged 70 and upwards died at Nelson ; the other at Auckland.
