MAGISTRATES' COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, March 22. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq.) Drunkenness.—Samuel Ramsbottom was charged with being drunk and disorderly and threatening to take hia wife's life. The defendant resides in George street, and last night whilst drunk he threatened to take his wife's life with a knife. Mrs Ramsbottom said that defendant was a good husband when sober, but when he was drunk she was afraid of him. The Bench fined defendant 10s and ordered him to enter into his own recognizance of £lO to keep the peace towards his wife for six months. His Worship strongly advised the defendant to join the Good Templars. He was informed that a lodge met that night, and he trusted the defendant would join at once. The defendant promised to do this, and his wife said that she would join with him. Robbing a Store.—Dennis Cullen was charged with breaking into and robbing a store belonging to Robert Dearsley. Ser geant Pratt asked for a remand for a week. The prisoner was only arrested yesterday, and the offence being committed at Malvern, it would take some time to get the witnesses. Some of the property was found upon the prisoner. The Bench remanded the prisoner to the 30th inst.

LYTTELTON. Monday, March 21. (Before W. Donald, Esq, R.M.) Drunxenness.—Robert Day, arrested by Constable Daley, and charged with this offenco, was fined 10s.

Embezzlement op Ship's Stores.— John Barlewis, charged on remand with this ffenoe, was discharged, and ordered back to Uis ship. Ferocious Dog.—M. Walters was summon d by Mr A. Chalmers with having a ferocious dog in his keeping. The case was iisnrssed. defendant paying costs ss. Pbovokiso and Abusive Language loan NeiNon was summoned by Chas. ■'ranoko't for using language towards him ilculated to provoke a breach of the peace.
