Cunningham and Co. The Clio, topsail schooner, Captain Chambers, belonging to Messrs B. Brogden and Sons, arrived in harbor at 9 a.m yesterday morning from Oamaru, in ballast. She will load piles for Moerakl. The barque American Lloyds with cargo and 133 Chinese passengers for Hong Kong, sailed same d The ship Maulesden, that arrived at Dunedin on the 16th, says the “ Evening News of 17th, is an Iron vessel throughout, and was built in 1875 by Messrs A. Stephens and Son, of Dundee, for Mr David Bruce, owner of the unfortunate Strathmore. The Maulesden Is consigned to Messrs A. Briscoe and Co, ot this city, and brings 2600 tons of general cargo, including 20 tons of powder, which we are pleased to see has been stowed in a properly constructed magazine, and after transhipping which the Maulesden will be shifted up the harbor, no doubt to one of the vacant berths at the Railway pier. She made a rapid passage of 73 days from land to land, having left Gravesend on December «9th. A barque was signalled from the North yesterday morning, but on being boarded by the pilot stood ■W>7 to the southward. No doubt she was the barqueNardoo, that left Newcastle on the 14th for this porti thus being 16 days out; as we are aware that Pilot Wood had received instructions to send her on to Dunedin Immediately on arrival here. The brigantine Sarah and Mary took her denurture yesterday afternoon for wreymouth. *The schooner Torea left Timaruon the 17th for the Manakau, with a cargo of produce shipped by P. Cunningham and Co. _ The brigantine Kate Brain. 118 tons. Captaih Gay. arrived in harbor on Sunday evening at 6 p m. from Picton. with a cargo of timber consigned to order. Captain Gay reports having left Picton last Friday; had N. W winds at the outset, lasting until her arrival off Kaikouras ; thence southerly, winds to Saturday, and afterwards northerly to arrival. The captain reports the schooner Jessie loading at tons of ballast, sails for Newcastle, N.S.W, first fair wind, to load coals for San Francisco. The Star ot the Mersey hauled out into the stream, ■nd was towed to an anchorage off the .breakwater by the s.s. Mullough yesterday morning. The Farningham was brought in to a berth at No 3 wharf. The Kate Brain brigantine was berthed at the Tunnel Wharf. „ . , , . . . The Otaklis expected to have finished taking in her wheat on Wednesday, when she will be hauled out into stream and proceed to Bluff first fair wind. The Himalaya will be shifted into her berth at the outer tier of the Gladstone Pier. The luvererne is nearly out, and will complete her discharge to-day, and be towed into the stream weather permitting. The Rangitikei takes her berth t O complete discharging. The N.Z.S. Co Limited, have a cablegram announcing the arrival in London of the ship Waikato prior to the 16th Instant. This, the first wool ship of the season, must have made the passage in about **The smart and favourite s.s. Wellington left Port Chalmers on Sunday at 11 a.m., arriving here at 6.30 a.m. yesterday. The wind during the first part of the passage was S.W, and during the latier N W The Wellington left Port Chalmers with 126 tons Of cargo, 30 tons of which and 21 passengers were landed at this port. After taking In 60 tons careo for North, sailed for Wellington at 3.30 p.m. The “New Zealand Herald,” in its American news column, gives the following;—* New York, January 17th. The statement of Mr Hutchins, a passenger on the steamship Adriatic, when she is alleged to have sunk the ship Harvest Queen by a collision, is published to-day. He says that on the morning of December 3lst he felt a great shock. He ran up on deck and Inquired for the captain. A sailor said—“We have just run into a ship. Others said—« Look I her lights are going down ; she is Sinking, by God! ” Someone then gave an order to lower the boats, and others declared they heard persons crying in the water for help. The sailors stood looking In the direction where the collision occurred, and one said. “She is gone,” meaning that the injured ship had sunk. Twenty minutes were consumed In lowering the boats, and after a short time the Adriatic proceeded on her voyage. Other passengers confirmed the above.
