MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, March 20. (Before G. L. Hellish, Esq, R.M..) Drunkenness. —The following inebriates were dealt with :—Jacob Cf'x, who was also charged with creating a disturbance in a licensed house, viz, the Riccarton Hotel, was fined 40s, and cab-hire, 2s 6d ; John Gough, was fined 10s and Is cab-hire; John Rountree who was in charge of a horse at the time he was taken into custody, was fined 10s. Neglected Child, —William Nixon was brought up under the Neglected Childrens’ Act. Inspector Buckley said the boy had been handed over to his father and mother. Discharged. Larceny. —Ann Osborne was brought up on remand charged with stealing a gold ring, the property of James Mitchell, of Riccarton. William Mitchell said that he recollected his father’s missing a ring. When his father spoke about it, prisoner said, “You did not bring it home one night you were in town.” Inspector Feast said that he had inquired, and found that there were no grounds for the statement prisoner had made respecting Mr Mitchell. His Worship said that this was not the first time the prisoner had been convicted of a similar offence. She would be sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labor.
