CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, March 16. Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, R.M., and W.

H. Pilliett, Esq., J.P.) False Pretences. —The case against the brothers Crothers for obtaining 7s 6d from Fletcher Dixon by false pretences, and which had been adjourned until 3 pm,, was now called on, both the defendants being present, Mr Garrick appeared for the prosecution 5 Mr Wynn Williams for the defence. Mr Garrick said that he was instructed by the Kaiapoi Woollen Company to state that they were unwilling to proceed with the case in the criminal aspect it was at present assuming, as the company understood that the Messrs Crothers would apologise, assorting that a lona fide error had been made in the statement that the flannel sold was Kaiapoi flannel. Mr Wynn Williams said that his clients were quite willing to make the statement that the representation was made in error by their salesman—a young man recently arrived—both the Messrs Crothers being absent from their place of business at the time. Mr Garrick said the company were willing to accept that statement, and, with the Court’s permission, be would withdraw the information, upon the understanding that an apology was made for the error and a distinct statement that no such statements or sales should be made in future. The defendants pledged themselves to this course, and the information was withdrawn accordingly,

Friday, March 17. (Before G. L. Hellish, Esq, R.M.) Drunkenness. —The following cases were dealt with—William Hutton, who was also charged with indecency, was fined 2Js ; Wm. Yexley fined ss; P. A. Emson fined ss, Illegally on Premises. —Goo. Kyrrison charged with being illegally on the premises of Mr P. Whyte, St Asaph street, was discharged with a caution, as it was stated he in the habit of visiting a female residing there.
