London, March 7, Mr Cave reports that the finances of Egypt are in a favorable condition, and that the resources of the country are sufficient. THE PRINCE IN INDIA. Singapore, March 6. The tour of the Prince of Wales continues to be a great success. He had a splendid reception at Nepaul. INTERPROYINCIAL. Auckland, March 8, Mr Bennett, agent for the English Eleven, who contemplate visiting the colonies, has written to Auckland asking what inducement the cricketers there can offer for a New Zealand visit, A meeting will be held to consider the matter. The managing director of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency has issued a circular announcing that a cable telegram has been received, stating that a meeting in London has confirmed the proposed increase of the capital by the issue of 40.000 new shares of £25 each. Napier, March 8. A Court of Enquiry was held to day into the circumstances of the wreck of the Opotiki. The Court heard the evidence of Captain Morris, Colt, and Freeman, and gave a decision as follows :—"lt is not proved to the Court that either loss, abandonment, or serious damage to the ship, or loss of life, occurred in this case from the wrongful action of any certified officer, and under clause 15 of the Act these are the cases in which we arc called upon to adjudicate. We desire, however, to express our opinion that the vessel was not in a seaworthy condition, and ought not to have gone to sea with the centre board working so imperfectly. Wellington, March 8, On board the Ladybird are HO fine specimens of cross bred merino and Leicester rams, forwarded by Mr McLean to Messrs Mitcbeli Co, of Christchurch,
Hokitika, March 9. An assay has been received from the University of Melbourne of live boxes silver and lead ore found on Mount Rangitoto, thirty miles from here. The assay is as follows ; No 1 gave 21 per cent lead, with 735 ounces troy of silver’, to the ton. No 2 gave 31 per cent lead, with 302 ounces silver, per ton. No 3 gave 10 per cent lead. There is great excitement in town over the discovery. The prospectors have not got through the vien. The Land Ollice has been rushed with applications for leases adjoining the prospectors’ claim. Six thousand acres are to be applied for in separate blocks of 200 and 300 acres each.
