A negro was scalded to death from a boiler explosion, and on his tombstone they chiseled deeply : " Sacred to the memory of our 'steamed friend.' An lowa farmer cut open an old hornet's nest, just to examine the inside arrangement. He says he thinks he will be able to see his barn in about two weeks. Just after the trial of a petty case (says a Nevada paper), in which one Hank Fisher was a witness, three or four of the lawyers were discussing among themselves the variety of testimony deduced, when General 8., with his usual vehemence, said • " There never was such a liar on the witness stand as that Hank Fisher, he is undoubtedly the biggest liar I ever knew ;" when the whole party were somewhat abashed at seeing Hank, who heard the General's remark, step up co him, 'Did you say I was the biggest liar you ever saw ?" " That is about what I said," stammeringly came from the general, who expected a fight. Hank eyed him fo'i" a moment, and then said, " I guess you didn't know my brother John."
