ENGLAND V. COLONIES. This match was concluded on Saturday last, the Colonies having 18 runs to get, with eight wickets to fall. Wood and J. Fowler, the ■" not outs," with 17 and 9 respectively, took their places at the wickets. The former soon retired without adding to his previous score. E. Fowler came, but run himself out, C. Frith was also run out, and J. Fowler played a ball on—six wickets down for 51 runs, and two men absent. W. Frith gave a chance to cover point, which was neatly taken by Neilson—the score still unchanged. Nine runs to make, and the last men were in, but they proved equal to the oocasion. The total gradually increased by singles until a lucky one in the slips won the game by three wickets, there being seven wickets down. The following is the score of Saturday's play:— ■ England. MARRIED V SINGLE. At the conclusion of England t Colonies, the above match was commenced. The Single won the toss and elected to act on the defensive, Ollivier and Leach being their first representatives. The former did not stay long, aa after making a 4, a 2, and a single, he was neatly caught by Souter at short leg—one for 12. H. W. Moore filled the vacancy, and with Leach made a long stand, the batting being very good and a treat to witness. The cutting by Leach and the hitting by Moore were very good. Moore however, should have been caught at third man when he had made 13, but happily for the batsman the chance was not taken. Several changes of the bowling were now tried but without effect, until at last Leach in attempting a cut, played the ball on to his wicket; his score contained three 4's, two 3's, and two 3's—two for 69. J. Fowler joined Moore land the run-getting continued, the telegraph having to be changed frequently. Moore made two good drives for 4 and 6 from consecutive balls, With the score at 101, Dickinson disposed of J. Fowler by a splendid catch in the slips ; soon afterwards Moore was bowled by E. Fowler, after making 38 by a 6, two 4's, two 3's &c—four for 109. Ashby and Barker raised the total to 125,whenCorfedisposedof theformer. Neilson now came to Barker's assistance, and the run-getting continued, both batsmen playing well. Neilson scored much quicker than usual, and soon ran up a score of 39, Barker having made 24, and the total stood at 193 when time was called. After about 30 runs had been scored the bowling fell off, and afterwards the fielding was anything but good. This latter circumstance was more noticeable in a player who should have set an example to the rest instead of fielding as he did, and we hope never to see suoh a want of proper spirit displayed again on the ground. We were glad to notice some exceptions to this, and it was the more pleasing, as when any of the players do not try to fipld, it has a tendency to make the rest do the same.
