The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency have the following telegram dated London, February 29th:—“ Wool—Up to date 40,000 bales have been sold. Competition decreasing, and the market is easier. A decline is looked for in cross-bred at next sales. Up to date 183,000 bales have arrived. The prospects for next sales are not so good. Tallow quiet; stock of all sorts 17,000 casks; mutton, £46; beef, £44. Leather flat; best sides showed Jd decline; others in proportion," Napier, March 3. The schooner Opotiki, from Gisborne to Napier, missed stays and went ashore this morning near Tareha’s bridge, Bangatira. They tried to get her off, but did not succeed. The vessel is reported to be insured for £SOO. Sir Donald McLean leaves for Wellington to-night per Granada. Wanganui, March 3. The whole of the official programme was completed yesterday evening. This morning a match was fired between the five highest and the five lowest aggregate scorers in the rifle championship against ten of the Wanganui Rifles—the former armed with long Sneider and the latter with short Sneider, changing weapons after each round ; six shots at 400, 600, and 600 yards. The representatives gained the match by 18 points. Wellington, March 3. Mr Westgarth’s circular of 24th December has the following South Australian as well as Queensland four per cents are a little below average, owing to the lately issued new loans, while those of New South Wales and Victoria are arrested in any further advance by the prospect of early considerable additions to stock.
