THE SURVIVORS OP THE SHIP STRATHMORE.
Bombay, February 25
A ship touched at Galle yesterday, and landed twenty survivors of the ship Strathmore, from London to New Zealand, which was wrecked on Crozet Island in July, 1875, They were rescued in a wretched condition on January 22nd by the American whaler Phoenix, which fell in with and transferred them to the Josh. Bentley. Mr Crombie was landed at Galle. Mr and Mrs Wordsworth, Mr Walker, and Mr Keith remained in the Phcenix. The mate and captain of the Strathmore were drowned. London, February 26.
After two day’s debate, the motion by Mr Whitbread, censuring the Admiralty slave circular, was negatived by 293 to 248. An amendment by Mr Fawcett to suspend the second reading of the Bill to make the circular law, was also negatived by 200 to 240. M. Dufanre succeeds M, Buffett as President of the National Assembly of France. Wool market unchanged; wheat depressed ; New Zealand, 50s to 51s.
