MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, February 21. (Before W, H. Pilliett, Esq.) Drunkenness. —The following inebriates were dealt with ; —Thomas Grainger, was fined 5s and cab hire; William Ogier, fined 10s; Reuben Davie was dismissed with a caution. Illegally on Premises. —Edward Goodacre was charged with being illegally on the premises of the Q.C.E. Hotel. It appeared that defendant was found at 1.20 a.m. yesterday sleeping in the back yard of the hotel. Defendant had been repeatedly warned not to go on to the land in question. Defendant said that the land was a public thoroughfare, although partly fenced in. The defendant was fined 40s, or ninety-six hours. Attempted Rape. —William Foote was charged with an attempt to commit a rape. On the application of Inspector Buckley, the prisoner was remanded until to-morrow. Larceny.— James Johnston was charged with stealing an umbrella, the property of Mr Boag, of Fendaltown. Inspector Buckley said that the prisoner was seen to take an umbrella from a cart in Oxford terrace. He would apply for a remand, as the police had not been able to trace the umbrella. Remanded until to-morrow. LYTTELTON. Saturday, Feeuary 19. [Before W. Donald, Esq, R.M.] Deurenness. —Michael Waters, John O’Callaghan, John Daley, arrested by Constable Daly, and James Locker, arrested by Constable Watt, were fined 10s each for this offence, or in default forty-eight hours. Drunkenness and Assaulting the Police. —John Taylor, arrested by Constable Daly, was fined 10s. Assault.— John Durham, on remand, stated that the matter had been Amicably ajxanged. LBITHFIELD. Thursday, February 17. (Before C. Whitefoord, Esq, R.M., and Hugh Mcllraith, Esq, J.P.) Public House Ordinance.—J. Ward was charged on three informations, to wit, that he did on the 28th, 29th of December, and 12th January, supply-a -less 'quantity than two gallons of beer without being duly licensed. The accused was fined £2O for the charge of the 29tb, that of the 28th was dismissed, and that of the 12th January withdrawn by police. Slaughtering Licenses.— Licenses of this nature were granted to G. F. Crampton and John Stanton, of Amberly, and Thomas Hood, of Waikari,
