ROAD BOARDS.
AVON. The Board met ou February 14th. Present —Messrs Lain 6, Dickenson, Wilson, and Philpotts. The surveyor’s report was read and considered. With regard to the Hills road, it was resolved that the present halfchain road already formed be shingled, and the remainder be formed and shingled ; also, that the surveyor be instructed to prepare plan of a bridge to be built over the creek. Tenders to be called for by next meeting of the Board. A deputation from the Sandhills waited upon the Board with regard to work done by them as per agreement with the Board, and requesting to have the remaining portion of the road done as soon as possible. The surveyor was instructed to meet some of the deputation and report upon the road. Resolved, that the bridge in the North road, near Papanui, be repaired and replanked, A letter was received from the chairman New Brighton school committee, requesting the Board to make the approach to the school. Resolved, that the request be complied with. A letter was read from some of the inhabitants of Clare road, complaining of the bad state of the drain. The surveyor reported that the drains had been attended to. A letter was read from the inhabitants of the Papanui swamp, requesting the Board to make some roads in their district, as otherwise they would be unable to get their produce to market, Mr Strange saw the Board upon the subject, when it was resolved that some of the members of the Board, with the surveyor, should go to the place, and see what steps could be taken. With regard to the drain from Papanui, for the widening of which Mr Horner and others had applied to the Board, it was resolved that tenders be called for the same by the next meeting of the Board; Tenders were received for the formation and shingling of roads at Bingsland, when that of G. Peet was accepted. Mr Wilson proposed the formation of road between the two gravel roads. Resolved that the surveyor be instructed to prepare plans for the same. Accounts were passed, and the Board then adjourned,
