ROAD BOARDS.
HALBWELL.
A meeting of the Halswell Eoad Board was held on Monday, 14th February. Present— Messrs Gray, Stafford, Moffet, and Brooks. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The surveyor was directed to give Mr Clark notice to clear the gorse off the road on his frontage ; to extend the wings of the bridge on the Tramway Drain Road, and run wires through, as it is unsafe for sheep to be driven across. Letters were read from the Assistant to the Secretary for Public Works, requesting to be informed of the name of the chairman to the Board ; also, the names of the surveyor or clerk to the Board, and their salaries. The surveyor was directed to give the required information. Another from the Secretary for Public Works, with copy of schedule re clearing the river Halswell, stating that the Government had accepted a tender for the work, and that the sum of £6l Os 2d will be deducted from the next instalment of the grant towards the expense. From the Registrar ■ General in Wellington, with form of statistics for the year 1875, requesting the same to be filled up and forwarded to Wellington. The surveyor was directed to make enquiries for a piece of land suitable for an office. Accounts to the amount of £l4 Os 5d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. LITTLE RIVER. The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held on the 7th instant. Present— Messrs Buchanan (chairman), Parkinson, Murray, and Gebbie. The following letters were received :—From the Secretary for Public Works, enclosing cheque for £IOB 8s 6d, being balance of General Government grant left unpaid in 1872. From the manager of the Union Bank, acknowledging receipt of note, with signatures of treasurer and clerk. From Secretary for Public Works in reference to River Halswell, and stating that Messrs Moorshed and McCartney’s tender for clearing the river for the sum of £450 had been accepted, and that the sum which the Little River district would have to pay towards the work would be £45 Is 4sd. From the Secretary for - Public Works, requiring the names of chairman and clerk for the current year. Froit the Registrar General, enclosing form for statistics of of the district. From the Bistrict Engineer in reference to specification for breaking metal at Red John’s gully # Little River bush. The clerk reported that he had replied to the note from the Secretary for Public Works relative to the names of chairman and clerk. There being no tenders for metal in Little River bush, the clerk was instructed to inform the district engineer of the fact. Resolved that Mr Murray and the clerk examine the road in the swamp at the Tai Tapu, and also Hole and Garforth’s road, and be empowered to have the necessary work carried out. The Board decided to give Mr Jacob Barnett notice to abate the nuisance caused* by the water flowing from his artesian well on to the road ; also that the Wheel Tire Ordinance be brought before thenotica of the public by advertisement; also with regard to rent of Government cottages, it was decided to charge five shillings per week for the cottages in Caton’s Bay and the bush, and four shillings per week for each of the others. The form for statistics was filled in and signed by the chairman. Sundry accounts were passed iof payment, and the Board adjourned.
