" A storm of hail, rain, and wind, of extraordinary violence, passed over Brisbane onp Saturday, Jan. 22nd. It commenced," sajal the Brisbane Courier, "about 4.15 p.m., andi lasted 20 minuteß. It came from by! south-west, and swiftly veered right round the compass, seeming to be blowing from points at once : but the damage done shows that its full force was from almost due south « The wind, a perfect hurricane, was nied by torrents of rain and hail, the latter? large-siztd jagged pieces not like ordinary hailstones, and Boms of which must/Jbaye'l weighed over an ounce. On s tioni? these might bo gathered in bucketifttl'.:! /fheaVjreets were flooded more rapidly -ttiijnj we ever saw them before, and in some the water ran*in roaring torrefifr two three feet deep. The whole tramc of tonicity was suddenly stopped, and everybody felt almost helpless in the face of so fierce a deluge. Shelter was the only thing thought of, and fhough this was comparatively eauy to be obtained by pedestrians, persona in charge of hoftes and vehicles were at wits' end to escape from the fusillade of hailstones and fche blinding rain. The range of the storm seems to have been confined tov a comparatively narrow area, for from outside the city it was not felt severely! A good deal of injury to property was occasioned."
