The Sydney Echo states that “ two magnificent new steamships, named respectively Australia and Zealandia, both of 3000 tons register, have just been completed in the Clyde by Messrs John Elder and Co, expressly for the Sydney. New Zealand, and San Francisco mail service, and will be despatched for this port via Melbourne during this and next month. These vessels are fitted with every scientific appliance, and being bound’ to speed under Government contract, are expected to make the passage 1o Sydney in forty-five days, and, consequently, may be looked for early in January and February, as from their large size they will steam direct, with the exception of calling at Port Phillip to land passengers.
