CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS IN LYTTELTON.

Although the good people of Lyttelton did not display such general interest in honouring old Father Christmas as their brethren in Christchurch, there was one excellent and several creditable displays, Messrs Garforth and Lee’s shop on Norwich Quay was decorated in excellent taste, and the show of meat was at least equal, if not superior, to anything ever previously exhibited in Lyttelton. A splendid calf, bred by Mr R. Bradley, formed an excel-' lent centre, and this was flanked by the quarters of a grand bullock, the first priaetaker at the Lincoln show, weighing lOcwt; and two heifers, also first priaetakers, 9cwt each. These splendid beasts were all bred and fed by Mr D. Gebbie, of the Peninsula, and the quality was excellent, A cross-bred wether 1201bs weight, and carcases of the merino wethers that took first prize at the Metropolitan show, and were bred and fed by My Chapman, represented the ovine interests, and some capital porkers completed what would have been a splendid show, even for Christchurch. The shop was elegantly decorated with evergreens and flowers. Messrs Judge and Langdown’s establishment was also very nicely and effectively arranged, and included some remarkably fine lambs, the best we have seen this season, and a very good calf. Flowers and foliage were also used in this case with good effect, to decorate the carcases.

Mr McKeever’s shop was also tastefully garlanded, and some good meat was shown. Besides the butchers, Messrs King and Co, Wilson and Co, and several other shops in London street, were dressed in Yule livery.
