The Australian Sovereign and Melrose barques got under weigh yesterday morning, there being a light S.W. wind, but were unable to stem the young flood and had to bring up. , „ . . The N.Z.S.S. Company’s s.s, Wellington. Captain Carey, arrived in harbor at 645 a m from Port Chalmers. She left that port at 10 43 a.m. on Sunday, and experienced moderate N.E. winds along the coast, arriving as above. . The brigantine Ethel hence, arrived at Auckland on the 12th iust, after a passage of nine days The brig Moa that was reported by telegram as having sailed from Hobart Town for this port, arrived at Timaru on the 15th inst. The barque Martha will be berthed alongside No 1 wharf to-day, to discharge her cargo of timber. The barquentine Prince Alfred was berthed at the Tunnel Wharf yesterday afternoon, and commenced to discharge. The Melbourne “ Age ” of November 29th contains an account of the launching of the new steamer Akaroa. She was built at the Yarra Boiler Works, by Messrs D. Forman and Co. She is to order of Messrs Hamilton, M'Lean and Co, and is to be used as « despatch boat, between Lyttelton, Pigeon Bar, and Akaroa. If she arrives in time she will go to Pigeon Bay with excursionists in company with the Halcyon on Boxing Day. The topsail schooner Le-lie, 108 tons, Captain P. Br >wn, left the River Mersey. Tasmania, on the fth December, cleared Bank’s Straits on the 9tli; had fresh northerly winds across, making the golander on the 14th; from thence to Nuggett Point fresh southerly breeze, and then light and variable to arrival. The s.s Wanganui, Captain Christian, left Dunedin wharf at 5 90 p.m on the 17th, and arrived at Timaru at 6.60 a.m on 18th ; discharged ninety tons cargo, and left at 8.20 p.m ; reached Akaroa at 6,30a.m; left at 13.15 noon, and arrived in this port and moored to Gladstone Pier at 6.2 p.m, greatly to the disgust of her passengers, who had the pleasure of seeing the last train leave the station a few seconds before landing. The s.s Albion, Captain J. W. Clark, arrived in harbor yesterday at 4 45 a.m. from Melbourne, via North. She cleared Port Philip Heads at 6pm on the Bthinstant; passed the Sisters at 12.30 p.m on the 9th ; arrived off Hokitika at 8 p.m 13th; left 2.30 a.m 13th; arrived off Greymouth 3.50 am; left at 4.40 a.m ; arrived at Nelson 11 p.m same day ; left 10 a.m 16th ; arrived Wellington 6.30 p.m same day; left at noon on the 19th ; experienced light northerly and westerly winds throughout the passage, arriving in harbor as above. She sailed for Melbourne via South, at 6 p.m yesterday.
