POPULAR AMUSEMENT ASSOCIATION
A meeting of the above was held at the City Council Chambers yesterday afternoon at four p.m. Present—His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Messrs Ollivier, Alport. Crosbie, Bid, Walkdeu, Mitchell, and Andri wp. Mr Ollivier reported that he hart p*id over to the treasurer the sum of £'><» odd, and had in haiid £9, while the Provin fiai GoVurumeot had signed a cheque to< £25, and th;TP was about £2O collectable Thus they would have over £l2O to work upnu, inclusive of their balance in hand. The Secretary reported as follows :- According to instructions the closing of entries for handicap events were closed yesterday, also tenders for booths. As no tenders for programmes had been received, he annexed draft if the committee thought it necessary to have a numb -r struck off and distributed The ground committee as appointed had visited the ground, and Mr McWiiliams had carried out the instructions conveyed to him. The grand stand was in course of erection, and Mr Walkden had kindly facilitated the action of the committee in having some (arth carted, also the overhauling of the I ars, poles, &c, belonging to the association. A number of letters had been wrilten.
The followiug tenders for booth 3 were opened—G. Barron, 20ft; VV. Genet, 20ft ; Hobbs aud Goodwin, 16ft; F. Ingmcyre, 10ft; H. .Sharpies, 10ft; T. Poole, 20ft ; Mouifer, 10ft; J. E. Bashford, 12ft; J Rvaus, 6ft; John Robinson, 20ft.
The tenders were considered, and all granted, exempt those of Messrs Sharpies and Poole, who had ni»s forwarded the r quisitr amount, of money for the sites.
The ballot for places then took plac", and the various sites allotted
1 was resolved that 1000 programmes be printed. The following: are the handicaps for the various events :
One Mile Handicap—W. Pentecost,scratch; M. Gibbons, 10 yards; Henry Black. 15; James S. Dunbar, 15 ; Henry E Goodeve. 20 ; Joseph Jacobsen, 25 ; J (>. Gough, 3 r i ; P. O'Rorke, 35; Fred. Clark, 45; E. J Reeve, 50 ; W. Smith, 50 ; VV. Henderson, 55 ; H. Winnie, 150 : H. F. Haddreil, 70.
Two Mile Walking Race—W. Edwards, scratch ; C. Bowley, 35 yards ; 1. Jacobsen, 35 ; C. Prebble, 100 ; H. Goodeve, 120 ;T. Ciiainger, 120; P. Slater, 130: J. Barker, 130 ; H. F. Haddreil, 150. Two MileHandicap —W.Pentecost, scratch; Henry Black, 40 yards ; J. Dunbar, 50; E. J. Reeve, 70 ; H. F. Haddreil, 100. Permission was granted to the A.O.F. to use the ropes and posts for their sports on the 27th.
Several suggpstions from Mr Alport, as regarded the arrangements at the j.-rand stand, wee considered, and th . meeting then adjourned,
