HOTEL AT NEWTOWN.
To the Editor of the Globe. Sir—As one of the residents in the vicinity of Newtown, I cannot for one moment allow some of the assertions made by the gentleman who appeared on behalf of the 140 Good Templars at the Licensing Court on Tuesday last to pass unnoticed. In the first place, I doubt very much if you could really find that number of Good Templars in the vicinity, as by expression of opinion I find that the majority of the residents are in favour of this proposed hotel, which has induced the present applicant to try and supply the want. Now, if that gentleman had really such a number on the petition, I should think it would have been a very easy matter for him to have produced it. In conclusion, I hope the Bench will see their way clear to granting this application, as there can be no doubt that snch a place is required, and with the undeniable references as to character which the applicant can produce, I have no doubt but what the house will be conducted in a proper manner. Yours, &o, RESIDENT, Newtown, December Bth, 1875.
