The latest rumour is that he will accept, and take Mr Speight, G.W. Good Templar, North Island, under his wing. Sir G. Grey has received numerous deputations to-day. He has consented to address the inhabitants of the Thames on Saturday night. He professed himself highly favorable to the Thames and and Waikato railway, and told a deputation that if the Government would pass a Bill guaranteeing a dividend, a company could easily be formed to make the line. The same experiment had been tried by him at the Cape, Wellington, December 3. A requisition, signed by many influential people, and a large number of others, has been presented to Mr Moorhouse, asking him to reconsider his decision as to not again standing for the Mayoralty. He has signified his willingness to again allow himself to be nominated. Mr Bunny’s address to the electors of Wairarapa will appear on Monday. He takes up the same ground as Mr Hunter, opposing the further continuance of provincialism, and separation. He is in favor of Shire Councils. The following are the events and prizes for the Interprovincial Regatta for 22nd January ;—Four-oared outrigger race, £l5O ; five-oared whale boat race, £SO ; four-oared batswing race, £100; yacht race, £SO, and cup £25 ; coasters’ race, £SO, and cup £25 ; pair-oared race, £2O ; scullers’race, £ls, and cup £5 ss; pair-oared inrigged gig race, £2O. Arrived—Ship Avalanche, from London, with 225 immigrants, all well, after a passage of eighty-nine days. She had fine weather all the way. There was no sickness or deaths on the voyage.
