(Per Press Agency ,) Auckland, December 1. The harbor endowments were sold to-day, and realised much higher rates than on previous years. The question has been raised whether Mr Henderson’s tender, by telegraph, for the dock was not informal. If rejected on that ground, Messrs Owen Jones and Co, local tenderers, are the next lowest. Napier, December 1.
A public meeting, convened by the’Mayor, agreed to a special rate of not exceeding 6d in the £ for filling in the swamp roads. An accident occurred at Kern yesterday. A man fell over the cliff, 100 ft in height. His fall fortunately was broken. The man was much bruised, but is thought likely to recover:
Grahamstown, Dec. 2.
Samuel Stephenson, hotel-keeper, has issued an address, announcing himself a candidate for the House of Representatives. He appeals to the working men, and announces himself a thorough abolitionist. He would abolish provinces and the Upper House. A requisition to Dr Kilgour is being signed. An address to Sir Geo. Grey was adopted at a meeting last night, thanking him for his action during the last session. He is expected this evening. It is considered probable that he will address a public meeting.

The trial of a locally built steamer, Tui, took place yesterday. She steamed an average of nine knots. She is built by Messrs Kincard and McQueen, for Mr Seager of Wellington, for the Lyttelton and Wellington trade. She will carry 110 tons of cargo on a draught of six feet of water. The trial was considered satisfactory. Bluff, December 1. The barque Adamant, from London, which has been long looked for, is signalled. She brings immigrants. DUNEDIN RACES. Wee Lad 3 Pertobe and Pakeha were scratched. Betting—Even on Rory • 3 to 2 on Wee Lad ; 2 to 1 on Blue Peter and Steamer. A splendid start was effected; coming past the stand the first time Peter led, with Wee Lad next, Rory third. At the gates Rory took second place. Coming into the straight Kory came away from the lot, winning easily by four lengths, the rest nowhere. Time, 2min 20£ sec.
