MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, November 19. [Before Dr Back, J.P.] Drunk and Disorderly.— Mary Welstead, an old offender, charged with drunkenness and disorderly conduct in the Magistrate’s Court the previous day during the hearing of a case, was fined 20s, or forty-eight hours. Elizabeth Bowen, arrested for being drunk and behaving herself indecently in the Times' lane, was fined 20s. or forty-eight hours. Lunacy from Drink, —Mary Gordon was brought up on this charge. Dr Guthrie, house surgeon at the Hospital, stated that accused had been an inmate for two days, and it was his opinion that she was suffering from lunacy, the effects of drink. As there was no ward at the Hospital for the treatment of such cases, he would recommend that she be sent to Addington for medical treatment. Remanded there for eight days.
