ROAD BOARDS.

AKAROA AND WAINUI. A meeting of this Board was held at the Road Board office, Akaroa, on Saturday, the 13th November, 1875, all the members being present. Mr Anderson attended personally to solicit the Board to have some improvement effected to the Barry's Bay Hill road, as it is now impracticable to drive a yoke of bullocks from the Hill to the Beach road without trespassing on private property. It was resolved that labor be employed to bench a new road, approach from the beach to Barry's Bay Hill, if it can be effected within the chain reserve. Letter was received from the Secretary for Public Works, stating that the Government had decided to adhere to the existing line of road, with the exception of a slight deviation, as recommended by the Provincial Engineer. Letter was received from E. Harrington, inquiring whether the Board contemplated forming the line of road which communicates with his section, 18833, in German Bay Valley, and offering to undertake the work. The clerk was instructed to visit the locality referred to by Mr Harrington, and report at the next meeting. Letter was received from Mr C. Bates, applying for a deduction from the rates levied on his property for 1875, as he considers he has been rated too high during previous years. The clerk was instructed to reply to Mr Bates, stating that rates during previous years have been levied in accordance with the respective rate rolls, and consequently no deductions can be made. Tenders were opened for construction of Pawson's Valley road, and also for breaking and quarrying metal on the Pigeon Bay road. These works being provided for by special grant they were referred to the district engineer. It was resolved that labor be employed to clear slips from the French Farm road, and also that plans and specifications be prepared for the construction of a new bridge over the Barry'B Bay Creek on the main line of road. The sum of £93 9s was passed for payment on account of wages and contracts, and the meeting then adjourned.
