♦ PORT OF LYTTELTON. ARRIVED. Nov. 16—Cleopatra, brigantine, 92 tons, Brown, from Pieton. CLEARED. Nov. 16—Beautiful Star, s.s., 146 tons, Pieterson, for Dunedin via Timaru. Nov. 16—J. G. Colesou, schooner, 68 tons, Chapman, from Pelorus Sound. The lighter Georgina, usually employed in ballasting, tlie property of Mr James Robinson, was proceeding yesterday to the Lactura, witli water for that ship, when she capsized and sank just astern of that vessel. There were two men on board, and these, when the lighter capsized, got into their dingy, and were rescued by a boat from H.M.S. Sappho. There was a heavy N.B. swell rolling in at the time. The N.Z.S. Go’s ship Mataura, Capt Gorn. ninetyone days from London, arrived at Nelson on the 10th with 210 immigrants, forty of whom arc for New Plymouth, seventy-live are for Nelson, and the remainder for Westland and Marlborough, On the passage there were eleven deaths —one man of disease of the liver, one woman in childbirth, and nine children, principally of convulsions. Tin; passage was on the whole favorable, although bitterly cold weather was experienced, and one roan was frostbitten. In lat 44deg 8. the ship passed through an enormous field of icebergs, 150 miles in extent, and the utmost care was necessary to avoid collision. The ship is clean and in good order, and there were no complaints made by the passengers. The Mataura has sailed for Dunedin, where siic will discharge cargo.
