Like the Emperor this vessel experienced strong westerly winds and heavy sea during the passage. The s s. Taupo. Captain J. Macfarlanc, arrived in harbor on Saturday at 9.30 am. from Port Chalmers. She left that port at 12.55 p.m. on the 12th ; experienced light northerly winds arriving in harbor as above. She sailed lor Northern ports yesterd*lhe brig Emperor, Captain Cleary, arrived yesterday morning from Newcastle, She left that port onthe 13th October, and had a very rough passage downfencountering several westerly gales, iu some cases so heavy that the brig could not run, but had to lay-to. The heads were reached on Saturday night last. The vessel will be berthed, if possible, the first thing to-day. The s.s. Beautiful Star, Captain Peterson, left Dunedin at 6 p.m. on Friday night, and arrived at Timaru at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning; discharged 60 tons of cargo, landed passengers, and sailed at ».30 p.m. same day, arriving here at 10.50 a.m. yesterday. Experienced fine weather and smooth water throughout the passage. She sails South to-morrow. Two foreign arrivals, viz, the barque Lizzie l'ox, 129 days from New York, and the brigantine Trelevan Family, 63 days from Foo Clioo, arrived at Dunedin on the 9th instant. The former vessel has acaro-o of Yankee notions—two thirds for Dunedin, and flthird tor Auckland. The latter vessel brings a earirO of tea for that market alone. We notice by the ' Otago Times' that the portion of the cargo ex Lochiel. from Mauritius, which was consigned to this port, has been disposed of at Dunedin, where the yessel.will discharge.
