Mr Frederick Whitaker, who was invited to stand for Thames, has declined, having accepted a requisition from Waikato. Heavy floods have occurred, and'eonsiderable damage is done. Three aristocratic Maoris, including the Hon Mr Mokeha,- Member of the Legislative Council, were locked up on Saturday for drunkenness, and severely fined before the Resident Magistrate this morning. The Wealth of Nations Quartz Mining Company, at Inangahua reefs, cleared up for the month of October,,, and obtained 6260 z retorted gold, value £2023, leaving a dividend of £I3OO, equal to four shillings per share after paying expenses. This is the fifteenth dividend paid by the company, amounting in all to £13,823, and £6BOO paid for machinery, giving a total profit to shareholders of £20,125 for eighteen months’ crushing, with fifteen head battery. .The directors are now erecting batteries, and purpose adding additional head stampers immediately, which will increase the profits to the shareholders considerably. : v ..
