The midnight sky is not so interesting as for some months past. Jupiter pnd Venus are basking in the rays of the sun, and refuse us a sight of their usual brilliancy. The sun is in the sign Scorpio, and will be until about the 22nd instant, when he then enters Sagittarius. The length of day on the Ist will be about 13h 50m, and on the 16th about 14h 26m. The phases of the moon will be—First quarter, Cd 9h 21m p.m ; full moon, 13d 9h p.m; last,quarter, 20d 10b 8m a.m ; new moon, 28d llh 15m a.m. The moon will be at greatest distance from the earth 2d Ih a.m.; nearest to the earth ltd 2h p.m ; and again at greatest distance 29d 9h a.m. Mercury, (id Hi a.m. will be nearest to the sun ; 8d 9h a.m, stationary; 15d 10b p.m, in greatest elongation, I9deg 17m west; 25d inli p.m, in conjunction with Jupiter; Mercury, Oil eg 44m north, a pity they will be invisible. Venus, 9d at midnight, in descending node, and 30d lb a.m, will be in conjunction with the moon; Venus, 4dcg 8m north. Mars, 6d lOh a.m, In conjunction with the moon; Mars, 2deg 30m north; and on the 22d 3h pm. will be in conjunction with Saturn; Mars, Odeg 13m south. Should the evening be tine they will present an interesting appearance. Jupiter, 5d 9h a.m, in conjunction with the sun, and on the 26d at midnight will be in conjunction with the moon ; Jupiter, 4deg 27m north. Saturn,7d 7h a.m, will be in conjunction with the moon: Saturn, 2deg 42m north ; 12d llh p.m, in quadrature with the sun; Saturn is not in position for an entertaining sight, even with a powerful telescope. Uranus, 16(1 Ih p.m stationary. Neptune will be on the meridian near midnight.
