CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

A meeting of the Board of Governors of the Canterbury College was held on Thursday at the Public Library at 10 a.m. Present — Mr William Montgomery (chairman), the Piimate, Revs W, J. Habens and J. Bailer, Hon E. W. Stafford, Hon J. B. Acland, Messrs H. R. Webb, J. Inglis, H. J. Tancred, H. B. Gresson, J, N. Tosswill, G. L. Mellish, The minutes of the former meeting were read and confirmed. The chairman said, before proceeding to the business of the meeting, he desired to thank the Governors for the honor conferred upon him in electing him to preside over the Board. It would be his earnest endeavor during his term of office so to discharge the duties devolving upon him as to advance the interests of the College, and what he had thoroughly at heart, the cause of education. [Hear, hear.J The chairman laid upon the table the conveyance of the reserve for the classical school, which had been conveyed by the Superintendent to the Board of Governors. Mr Mountfort was in attendance, and submitted the proposed plans of the College for approval. It was resolved that the Board go into committee for the purpose of considering the plans. On the Board resuming, Rev Mr Habens obtained leave to withdraw his motion as to the postponement of the election of Mr J. Colborne-Veel. The two seats rendered vacant by the resignation of Hon 0. 0. Bowen, and the declining to accept the office by his Honor Mr Justice Johnston, were so declared vacant by the Board, and nominations called for. The Rev W. J. Habens proposed Mr J. Colborne-Yeel. Mr John Inglis proposed MrR. W.Fereday. Mr Gresson proposed Mr E. C. J. Stevens. According to the resolution of the Board the election of two members from the abovenamed three candidates will take place at next meeting of the Board. Mr T. fl, Potts was elected a member of the college committee.
