COLLEGE SPORTS.
The concluding portion of the college sports remaining over from Thursday last, took place on Saturday afternoon. The events comprised the high jump open to the whole school, that for boys under fourteen, and the consolation race for boys under fourteen. The first of these was keenly contested, four competitors entering, and the jumping being very good indeed, taken all through. E, V. Hamilton secured first honors with a jump of 4ft 9in, being half an inch less than the winning jump last year, when it was won by Chapman with The 1 high jump, for boys under fourteen, fell to Higgins with a jump of 4ft, there being five competitors. The consolation race was taken by McGlashan. after a very good spin, he succeeding in winning by about two or three yards. For this there were ten starters • E. V. Hamilton having made the greatest pajabw of point* during the sports this year
becomes the holder of the old boys’ challenge cup. The points made by him amounted to 21, G. Westenra coming next with 18. Had it not been for the unfortunate accident to the latter in the hurdle race, which not only threw him out of that, but also prevented him going for the high jump, he would have been the winner of the cup. Taken throughout, the sports this year have been remarkably successful, and the arrangements reflect great credit on the committee and all concerned.
