PORT OF LYTTELTON. ARRIVED. Oct IG —Australian Sovereign, barque, 3<>3 tons, Birch, from Newcastle, N.S. W. CLEARED. Oct 16—Samuel Merritt, barque, 25'J tons, Holden, for Guam, in ballast. Oct IG —Jessie Henderson, schooner, /- tons, Robinson, for Auckland. The barque Australian Sovereign, Captain Bircb, arrived in harbour this morning from Newcastle, with a cargo of 530 tons coals for C. W. Turner. She left Newcastle on the Ist. The fine barque Hopeful, Captain Luly, arrived In port yesterday morning at 9.30 am., alter a passage of thirteen days from _ Newcastle. She brings a cargo of coals consigned to I . Cunningham and Co. Left Newcastle on the Ist with variable westerly breezes then experienced N.W. toSS.K. winds; sight'd Cape Farewell on Bth with light winds from b. W. to S.S.E., which lasted till 2 p.m. on the 9th, when Sandy Spit Light was sighted, bearing b.S.M ~ distance seventeen miles ; after which experienced a terrific gale from S.K. to S.S.E, lasting until midnight of the loth, when it moderated ; thence light breeze from the westward as lar as the Brothers, the wind then coming from the S.K, with thick weather till midnight; from thence to arrival at the Heads southerly and SE. winds. V, as in company with the brig Amy, hound to IS apier, m the Straits, from noon on Monday till 8 p in. The smart topsail schooner Marmion, Captain Bowton, arrived in port at 11 a.rn. yesterday irorn Kaipara, with a cargo of 70,000 ft of tirst-class timber consigned to Mathcson’s Agency. Captain Bowton reports leaving the Kaipara on I nday, the Bth, had a succession of heavy gales of short duration from S. to S.W. up to Sunday, and was oil Cape Campbell on that morning; from thence very light northerly airs ; passed a topsail schooner and barque bound here, and a large brig bound South, but was too far off to make out their names; the barque was supposed to be the Australian Sovereign, The schooners Omaha and Atlantic, fortius port, and Sarah Bile, lor Dunedin, were ready for sea when the Marmion left Kaipara,
