The Domain. — There have lately been received by the Domain authorities, as exchanges, about eighty hardy herbaceous plants and shrubs, from Hobart Town, the majority of which have been planted out, the remainder being hardened off previous to planting. Most of these are new to the province, and will be found a great acquisition. The upper portion of the gardens have been relaid out, the wire fences cleared away, and a semi-circular walk has been formed, sweeping from the river to the Museum. Along the line of the walk a series of beds have been excavated, filled with sods and manure, and planted with new roses, a line of Araucaria (commonly known as the monkey puzzle) being planted behind the rose beds, which in a few years will give this portion of the gardens a very pleasing appearance. Clumps of roses, shrubs, herbaceous plants, &c, planted last season in the new borders, and which have thriven well, added to the improved appearance of the lawns consequent on the attention and topdressing they received during the winter, have increased the pleasure of a stroll through the Domain, its present tasteful appearance reflecting the highest credit on Mr Armstrong, the Government gardener.
