CHBISTCHURCH. Saturday, October 9. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, P.M.) Drunk and Disorderly. George Peters, charged with drunkenness, was fined 10s. Obtaining Money by False Pretences. —Lauritz Neilson was brought up, charged with obtaining 10s 6d by false pretences, from Eobert Shearman, of the Somerset Hotel, Ashburton. Mr Thomas appeared for the accused. Inspector Feast said that accused had been arrested the previous night on the warrant produced, received from Ashburton. As he was not yet in possession of the particulars of the charge (and hebelieved there were others also pending) he would ask for a remand for eight days. His Worship granted the remand, accused to be brought up before the Bench at Ashburton in the meantime, if the justices are sitting there. Neglected Chtld. —Mary Thompson, a little girl on remand, was brought up, charged with being a neglected child. The evidence of Constable Cartmann and the mother showed that the girl would not stay in any of the situations obtained for her, and had lately got into the habit of sleeping out at night time. She had also been found by one of her employers under the influence of liquor, and was altogether beyond the control of her mother. Ordered to be sent to the industrial school for four years, to be .brought up in the Roman Catholic faith. Larceny.—Robert Chuclley was brought sup on a warrant, charged with the larceny of a razor. Mr Thomas appeared for the ac--cused. Constable Maurice deposed to finding the razor produced in the pocket of a icoat belonging to the accused. The coat was hanging up in a room occupied by him •in the Benham Hotel, Kowai Pass. G. R. Wills, farmer, at Malvern, stated that the -accused was in his employment up to Sep„tember|last. The accused used sometimes to borrow a razor from him. Accused left the razor in a stable when he went away, but returned on or about Tuesday last, and took it away with him. He was present when the constable found the razor in the coat pocket of accused. The razor produced was his property. He had not given the accused leave to take the article away. After Mr Thomas had addressed the Bench, his Worship sentenced accused to fourteen days' imprisonment, with hard labor. DisOBEViNG AN Order. —Thomas Helms, who had been brought up the previous day charged with disobeying an order of the Court to provide for the support of his family, again appeared before the Bench. Inspector Buckley said the distress warrant had been returned unexecuted. Defendant paid £5, and promised to pay the balance, £1 15s, by eleven o'clock on Monday.
