ROAD BOARDS.
RICCARTON.
The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Saturday, at the office, Cashel street west. Present—Messrs H. J, Hall (chairman), Nunweek, Patterson, and Griggs. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr R. Wilkin, pointing out the dangerous state of the bridge over the Avon at Merivale, and stating that in consequence of the planking being rocten an accident had happened to bis horse. The Board directed the surveyor to reply that the bridge referred to was outside the boundary of the Riccarton district; also to forward Mr Wilkin's letter to the Provincial Government, under whose charge the bridge is. A letter was read from the Provincial Treasurer, enclosing cheque for £1 19s 4d, being the balance of amount due undsr the Payment to Provinces Act for the year 1870-1. A circular was read from the Secretary for Public Works, advising that the second instalment of grant for 1875-76 has been forwarded to the Provincial Treasury for payment. Tenders were received for forming the north side of the Riccarton road, and for several other works which had been advertised, and one was accepted in each case. Complaints having been made to the Board of the nuisance arising from cattle being allowed to wander at large over the roads of the district, the Board directed the surveyor to communicate with the Commissioner of Police on the matter. It was resolved —" That tenders be invited by next Board day for supplying metal for the maintenanceof the main roads." The collector was authorised to sue for all outstanding rates. Accounts were passed for work done, and the Board adjourned until 6th November. TBMPLBTON. The ordinary meeting of this Board took place at the Road Board office, Yaldhurst, on Monday, October 4th. Present—Messrs Bailey (chairman), Hepworth, and Sinclair. A letter was read from the Secretary for Public Works, informing the Board that a voucher for the sum of £215 ss, being the second instalment of the Provincial Road Board grant for 1875-6, had been forwarded to the Provincial Treasury for payment. Mr Henry Anderson having made application to the Board to have the road formed from Dermott's corner, running past section 4069 into the river bed, the surveyor was directed to inform Mr Anderson that the Board contemplated getting the road referred to laid off and extended about a mile and a half across the river bed. to the intersection with the Bealey road; and as soon as this was done the matter would come under the consideration of the Board. A letter was also received from Mr R. W. Hawkins, poundkeeper, stating that a horse that had recently been impounded had been sold by auction by him, and only realised the sum of one shilling, thereby incurring a loss of £1 4s, and asking the Board to make him an allowance of that sum. The Board decided to leave the matter in the hands of the clerk, to see from what source the loss arose. A letter was also received from the manager of the Bank of New Zealand, advising the Board of the balance of the Board's account to date. Tenders were then opened for the following works : —For the construction of a single brick barrel culvert at the Templeton railway station gates on the South road, and for metalling about fifty-eight chains of the South road, and about five chains of Jeff's road, the Board accepting one in each case. As people have commenced trespassing oj reserves 321 and 322, which have recently been fenced in and planted, the surveyor was instructed to get a notice board put up, and take legal proceedings against any one found thereon, and also write the chief surveyor, asking to have the road running between and ending at the corner of sections 4069 and 4364, continued across the river bed, to the intersection with the Bealey road, at the north west corner of section 2919, and also the road running between sections 2121 and 2995 continued to the intersection with road already laid off, running in a north-west direction towards the Waimakariri. The pay sheet, amounting to £157 15s 14d, having been adopted and passed, the meeting adjourned,
